A pedicure remains a cosmetic treatment of the feet and nails, similar to a manicure. Pedicures are performed for aesthetic and therapeutic purposes. They are famous all over the world.
Pedicures include care not one for the toenails; dead skin cells remain rubbed off the soles of the feet with an uneven stone (often a pumice stone). Skincare is usually provided down to the knee, including granular exfoliation, hydration, and massage.
Pedicure is derived from pedis, which means “of the foot,” and cura, which means “care.

People have had their fingernails treated for over 4,000 years. In southern Babylonia, nobles used solid gold tools for manicures and pedicures. The use of nail polish can remain traced even further. Native to China in 3000 BC, nail color indicated social status, according to a Ming Dynasty manuscript; the royal nails were painted black and red. The ancient Egyptians had been manicuring since 2300 BC.
A depiction of the earliest manicures and pedicures has been found on a sculpture in a pharaoh’s tomb, and the Egyptians were known to pay special attention to their feet and legs. The Egyptians also dyed their fingernails, using red to show higher social class. It is said that Cleopatra’s fingernails were painted dark red, while Queen Nefertiti opted for a flashier ruby hue. In ancient Egypt and Rome, military commanders also painted their nails to match their lips before the battle.
