As you well know, many types of leaders differ from each other by several very different peculiarities. Of course, there are also leadership styles that mix the characteristics of different kinds of leadership. Today we have opted to speak of six types of leadership: natural, autocratic, charismatic, democratic, “laissez-faire,” and, last but not least: transformational leadership.

1) Natural Leadership

The natural leader is not officially recognizing but exercises the head or leader of a group without anyone questioning it. Some people carry “being a leader” in their genes, and during the development of a project or day-to-day work, they almost without realizing it become team leaders. It is a type of leadership that is highly appreciated among the members of a work team since they all end up being a participant in the decisions of the “boss” whom they have voluntarily chosen to follow.

2) Autocratic Leadership

Autocratic leadership is the most extreme form of leadership: a leader with absolute power within the group.  Assertive communication does not exist, and the members of the team limit to follow orders. They do not feel free even to make suggestions or different strategies marked by the leader. We face a very restrictive type of business leadership concerning the freedom of movement of the work team members, with the responsibility and the merit of each action falling on the leader. 3) Charismatic leadership

Among the leaders, the charismatic boss is one of the most common, known, and recognized. This type of business leadership bases its success on the leader generating positive feelings and sensations among the team members. This charismatic leader has developed strong communication skills. Through his words and gestures, ways of acting, etc., he can generate the enthusiasm and enthusiasm necessary for the project to flow smoothly and effectively. The main problem of charismatic leadership? : the project, department, or company runs the risk of disappearing if the leader disappears from the group.

4) Democratic Leadership

The democratic spirit is the main trait of democratic leadership: the leader is still the one who has the last word or decision but can listen, attend and weigh the recommendations and opinions of the team members.  Democratic leadership is a model that generates a high level of satisfaction among members of a project, which improves their motivation and thus their productivity and profitability for the company. It is a leadership style that takings time to develop more than other leaders, but the results are worth it.

5) Laissez-Faire Leadership

Laissez-faire is a French expression that could be roughly translated as “letting go” or “letting go.” In business leadership, this term defines those leaders who give a great level of autonomy to their team members. It is a very efficient leadership style in groups made up of senior members with extensive prior professional experience and a high level of autonomy. However, the leader should not neglect the tasks of monitoring and follow-up of the work since, as you know, delegating is not the same as washing your hands and letting others do the hard work.

6) Transformational Leadership: The Most Complete Of All Types Of Leaders?

The transformational leader has naturalness and charisma. He is democratic both when making decisions and implementing them, trusts in his collaborators’ autonomy. Although he does not exercise authority like the autocratic leader, he is aware of his role and centralizes some actions and delegates others. He is the most complete and enriching type of leader or boss that we can find.

This kind of leadership aims to generate transformations among the team members for the future of the project. The transformational leader can get the best out of each professional, knows how to maximize it, and, thus, can increase the productivity and performance levels of his valuable human team as a whole.
